Wednesday, 13 September 2006

The National Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) was developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) and is now run by the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF).

In Tennessee, the TNSCTP is a joint effort between the Tennessee Wildlife Federation (TWF) and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).

TNSCTP provides Tennessee's youth, grades 5-12 and now college, an opportunity to compete in clay target shooting competitions with their peers from across the state.

Each individual participates with a team of shooters. Most teams are recognized as a school endorsed program, local 4-H clubs or other community groups, such as Boy and/ or Girl Scouts or Venture Crews.

Since the programs inception in 2001, participation in the program has grown enormously. Currently, more than 1950 athletes are registered in the TNSCTP.

Approximately 1,106 athletes participated in the TNSCTP State Trap Championship Shoot in 2009.

TNSCTP will teach youth the importance of firearms safety while instilling values of discipline, leadership and teamwork that will help mold the future sportsmen and women of Tennessee.

Apart from being the nation's leader in youth shooting sports programs, the TNSCTP offers an opportunity for Tennessee's young men and women to experience the fun and excitement of competing in one of the fastest growing sports in the country.
